Dates, events… Find out more about this unusual event!

Discover an unusual discipline

Swimming in icy waters is not for the faint-hearted. However, it’s a discipline that has gained momentum globally, with national and international competitions on the rise since the early 2000s. The concept is straightforward: brave the cold waters, with one significant detail… the neoprene suit is strictly forbidden! It’s a challenge that may seem daunting, but the rewards are immense.

Despite the initial shock, swimming in ice water offers numerous health benefits. From the release of endorphins to increased blood circulation and a boost in body temperature, the effects are surprisingly invigorating. Contrary to common belief, cold water can be incredibly beneficial for your overall well-being.

The World Ice Swimming Championship

This winter, the world frozen water championship organized by IISA (International Ice Swimming Association created in 2009) will take place in Trentino Alto-Adige, in the heart of the Dolomites.
A few steps from Lake Molveno, the races will take place in a 50 meter swimming pool with water at a temperature below 5 degrees.
Over the course of five days of competition, hundreds of athletes from more than 35 countries will compete over various distances ranging from 50 to 1000 meters in all disciplines (freestyle, butterfly, etc.).

What if I don’t intend to swim?

While the World Ice Swimming Championship is exclusively for registered IISA athletes who have qualified, the spectacle is open for all to witness. Spectators are invited to experience the thrill of the competition against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Molveno. Additionally, Molveno offers a plethora of activities for non-swimmers, from leisurely strolls admiring the snow-capped scenery to family-friendly snow play in the surrounding areas.

Don’t miss the chance to witness the resilience and determination of athletes as they brave the icy waters of Lake Molveno. Join us for an unforgettable experience at the Ice Swimming World Championship 2025!
